"Sunday fun day" and "Sunday lazy Sunday" are commonplace expressions used to describe the calming and lackadaisical times that are Sundays. However, what happens when your Sunday to sleep in and relax turns into a tumultuous and non-stop work session? Well for basically all college students, this is what Sundays have become.
You awaken to the bright sun shining in your eyes disturbing the deep, dreamless slumber that's sole purpose is to get rid of the leftover alcohol in your system. The pounding headache relentlessly stabs at your brain until you are forced to sit up to search for your precious bottle of Advil. Then, your arid dessert of a mouth calls for water and you are forced to peel yourself out of bed and get a cup.
After you are put through this physical distress, you are now assaulted with the thought of every assignment and reading you have been desperately avoiding, like that creepy guy in your math class. Your heart starts to race and you begin to panic at the thought of having to pull an all-nighter to finish the work you didn't do Thursday through Saturday night.
You emerge from your fortress of a hangover and go to look in the mirror and brush your teeth. You slowly rub your face, only to be appalled by your raccoon eyes, as you obviously didn't remove last night's makeup. As you start to scrub away your eyeliner along with last night's mistakes, you realize that your Sunday is actually a prison. It is worse than being trapped with your mom in high school when she was in a bad mood, but you needed her to drive you somewhere so you had to be nice.
As all of these thoughts run through your mind you realize that the relaxing and joyful Sunday you craved so badly does not exist. In fact, this Sunday will never exist. Because as you grow up, the silly childhood dream you had of those tranquil Sundays are simply one of the fairy tales that will never come true.
