Summertime is supposed to be fun, relaxing and stress free. You are done with papers and exams so you should be able to relax and have fun back home with your family right? Wrong. Now that you are in college you have to start "adulting" which is not stress free or relaxing.
First of all, you have to be making some kind of income to pay for tuition, textbooks, food, etc. Having a summer job takes up 90 percent of your summer. Your friends always text you asking to hang out or to do something fun, but you always have to respond saying "sorry I work.” A lot of time I would much rather sit on the couch with friend’s binge watching Netflix, but I can't complain making money is really nice too.
Another hard part about coming home for the summer is leaving all your amazing friends you met at school and only having like four friends back home. On the bright side you know those are your forever friends since you haven't become distant after going to away to different colleges. However you still miss your friends from school and would have to travel hours just to see them.
Going to school in the city has its perks because there's endless things to do and never get bored. However back home you are stuck in a small town with the same people you've been with for years with absolutely nothing to do. If you wanna go somewhere to hang with friends it usually requires money which is hard for us broke college kids who are balling on a budget. Plus there are only so many places to eat and things to do in a small town, so you end up hanging out on the couch watching Netflix like usual.
Then there is the question that you are constantly asking yourself, "Can I go back to school yet?" Don't get me wrong it’s great to be back home with family and old friends, but it can get really boring really quickly. You keep reminiscing on all the amazing memories you've made at school and can't wait to go back.
Summertime was a blessing back in the high school days, but now as a college kid I wish summer would go by a little faster just so I could go back to school to learn about what I'm actually interested in, explore the beautiful city, and make many more memories with new friends.
