Summer Expectations Vs. Reality

It's too easy to build up unrealistic expectations of how your summer will go, and often it doesn't go as planned.

Summer is the time to catch up with old friends from high school, hit up the beach, take long road trips, and bronze your pasty skin. However, many of us hype up our summer plans so much, they often don't live up to our expectations. It's best to live in the moment instead of building up big expectations like these just to be disappointed:

1. Beach Days

Expectation:

You expect your awesome beach day to be a day full of effortless fun. Nothing but sun, sand, and a great book.

Reality:

You're super cute bathing suit turned out to be super awkward and not supportive for the girls at all. The water is freakishly cold, there's sand in your food, your towel, and places you don't want to mention.

2. Meeting Up With Friends From High School

Expectations:

It's going to be great, it'll be just like old times, no it'll be even better. You'll tell each other all about your new lives at college and catch up on old gossip. You'll soon discover a few hours have passed, where does the time go?

Reality:

It feels like you're out with a new person entirely. Truth is, you've both changed as people in college and grown out of your old high school personas. You chat about mutual topics and maybe the weather.

3. Vacations

Expectation:

You pack your bags for an epic get-away that everyone else is
jealous of. You're so excited to work on your tan and flirt with all the cute
surfers in whatever quaint beach town you're staying in.

Reality:

You pack up your parent's RV and head north to a no-name, middle of nowhere town to stay the week in the woods. You'll probably leave with no tan but a lot of bug bites.

4. Summer Flings

Expectations:

You meet a gorgeous person while on one of your epic vacations. You laugh and watch the stars every night and kiss under the fireworks over the beach. When it's time to go home you promise to stay in touch.

Reality:

LOL. You realize that you can't flirt with anyone during any other season, what makes summer any different?

5. Work

Expectation:

You work a few hours here or there, planned around all your
social activities for the summer. You love your job and make good money for part-time work.

Reality:

You've actually sold your soul to your job tending to cranky,
middle-aged patrons, and end up working God awful hours at minimum wage.

6. Tanning

Expectation:

You effortlessly develop a beautiful, golden glow about you. Your skin looks like bronze and you hardly had to apply any lotion!

Reality:

You're pasty af and thanks to that you end up red as a lobster. You're only saving grace is that it might peel and turn into a hint of a tan...maybe.

7. Day Trips

Expectation:

You gather your closest friends and hit the road to visit as many sites as possible. You snap hundreds of pictures, collect cute trinkets from each location, and have an over all great time.

Reality:

If you're not working, you're probably in bed sleeping all day
or watching Netflix. Let's be honest here.

8. Having Time to Clean

Expectation:

You spend your free time cleaning through your piles of clothes,
cluttered boxes, and over-filled closet. You're an adult now, and the
cleanliness of your room can now reflect it.

Reality:

You put it off everyday until it's suddenly time for school to start again. You're cursed to forever live in your own filth.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
