Schools out, the temperatures rising and the possibilities are endless -- summer has begun!
You're driving down an open road with the windows down, your arm hanging out the window moving with the wind. Your iPod playlist shuffles to that album that you have always liked. But, right now, it evokes a different feeling. The sun is setting and the wind is going through your hair and something in your chest just swells.
All of the different stimuli attaches a whole new emotion to the album. Listening to it months later and still feeling just like that evening on the highway, feeling the nostalgia -- that's what makes an album a summer sound track.
Here are just a couple of my favorite summer sound tracks to get you in the mood those long days and even longer nights:
1. "Vessel" by Twenty One Pilots
Not only is this the album that brought the Ohio natives, twenty øne pilots, to the forefront of popular cultures' consciousness, but "Vessel" has many tracks that bring the summer feels as a whole.
Whether you're chilling at the beach, cruising down the highway, having a bonfire or having an all huge house party -- there is a song for each of those situations and moods.
Listen to: "The Run and Go," "Migraine," "Fake You Out," and "Ode to Sleep"
2. "From Under the Cork Tree" by Fall Out Boy
Long time heavy hitters in the pop rock scene, nothing will make me feel more like throwing a huge party and just going for a walk in the woods at the same time as this album. Though this album also gives off autumnal vibes also, there are definitely for sure some bangers in here that you can play to easily have an impromptu dance party in your backyard at 3AM.
Listen to: "Nobody Puts Baby In A Corner," "XO," and "Sophmore Slump or Comeback of the Year"
3. "Devil" by Lydia
Not only is this one of the best indie pop albums out there coming from one of the best indie pop artists, this album gives off that chill feeling that you'd get when you're road tripping with no actual destination. Wind in your hair, laughter and good vibes -- that's what "Devil" feels like in a nutshell.
On the other hand, this album is perfect for those random thunderstorms that come out of nowhere in the summer that are beautiful to watch.
Listen to: "Runaway," "The Exit," "Take Your Time," and "Back To Bed"
4. "Put Yourself Back Together" by Real Friends
This was the single album I listened to the summer of 2013. Giving off a total hyped vibe, Real Friends' album "Put Yourself Back Together" gives off the feeling of just letting loose, loving your friends and not giving a crap what others think about you.
Pairing with emo lyrics and hooks with hyped up pop punk styles that we've come to love, "Put Yourself Back Together" is the perfect album to do just that with your friends this summer.
Listen to: "Late Nights in My Car," "Dirty Water," and "Lost Boy"
(Honestly, just listen to the whole thing.)
