Interning is an exciting thing. One day you're working a minimum wage job and the next you're 10 hours from home, working 9-5 in a big office for the summer. It's honestly quite the adjustment from the school year when you can go out on Thursday nights and don't have class on Friday morning. Now, I have to go to sleep by 10:30 so I can wake up at 6 am and put on clothes that aren't lulu leggings and a comfort color t-shirt.
And as fun as the job may be, you are just an intern. It's a right of passage type-of-thing. There are certain aspects of every internship that can only be summed up by gifs.
1. Introducing yourself during the first team meeting
Being the intern is hard. You're already at least 10 years younger than everyone there and the only job experience you have is retail. It's hard to convince the full-timers that you know your stuff.
2. When your first task was to really make a coffee run
You see it in the movies all the time, but I really wasn't expecting it to be the first thing I did.
3. Having to wake up before noon
Why does anybody want to be an adult? My alarm goes off at 6 am and it's just too much. Plus, staying out late just isn't an option anymore.
4. Walking into work the next day after inevitably staying out all night
You can take the girl away from college, but can't take the college out of the girl.
5. Bonding with the other interns
You can't really bond with Jeff in accounting because he's 44 and married with two kids. But Sarah from USC is equally just as lost as you are.
6. Having to make 400 copies of the same contract
Again, this is something you see in the movies that I really didn't think you ever actually had to do.
7. When you get your first assignment that is relevant to your actual major
This is it. This is my time to shine. I can really show them what I'm made of.
8. When you look at the assignment and realize you have no clue what you're actually doing
Maybe this was taught on that Monday night lecture I skipped.
9. When you're nearing hour 9 of your 10-hour shift
The day just never seems to end.
10. When your boss compliments your work
I mean, they hired me. They really are the world's best boss.
11. But then you go back to making copies
It was too good to be true
12. Finally leaving work on Fridays
Who knew Friday at 7 pm would be the best day of the week?
13. But despite the long hours, you wouldn't trade this experience for the world
I love my job, my coworkers, and my boss. The hours are long and sometimes the work is tedious, but I am truly lucky to be doing what I am.
