Summer As A College Student

A magical time with no friends, lots of sweat, and boredom.

Summer as a college student is terrible. Yeah I said it. Terrible. Unless all your best friends live in the same town as you or remotely close when you go home, you're going to have the most boring summer ever. Here are a few things us college students face when you're home for summer.

1. Jobs

Yep. You're an "adult" now, so you have to do adult things like get a summer job or an internship. That's if you're lucky and the places in your home town are hiring seasonal positions. If not you're stuck at home probably trying to run a lemonade stand on your street corner. Hashtag BROKE.

2. Missing your friends

Because you're at home and most of your friends live hours away you're so bored to the point where you actually consider writing hand written letters to your bff because you have nothing better to do.

3. Netflix

Netflix and chill is apparently a big thing in the college world now and if you're like me you're obviously netflix and chillin by yourself, snuggled in bed, avoiding responsibilities. So you can only assume that will be a part of your summer to-do list.

4. Activities

Because you have nothing to do you inevitably spend hours on pinterest trying to find crafts and new projects to work on because you're bored out of your mind

5. Snapchat

Because your friends aren't around you snapchat the crap out of everything. "Hey here's me getting coffee. Oh look I went somewhere new! Geotag!! Hey look at these cool filters. Hi snap chat friends!!! My summer is great and i'm going to brag about it on snapchat so you think so."

6. Vacation

The only good thing that comes out of summer is vacation because you get to do cool things like visit your grandma or go to the beach.

7. Dying of boredom

Summer usually is the time when you get to relax, go to the pool, and catch up on all of your favorite tv shows but what if you run out of shows or are tired of your eyes burning from the chlorine? What do you do then? Nothing. Exactly nothing.

8. Sleep

You aren't on a set schedule so you more than likely stay up all night and sleep all day. Some days I don't even leave my bed.

9. Fighting with your siblings

You haven't been with your siblings all year except holidays and now you have to live with them. Now you have to share the tv, they eat all your favorite foods, and they ask annoying questions. Can we sell siblings on Ebay??

10. Unpacking

It's almost the end of the summer and you're still living out of your suitcase. You haven't unpacked since you've moved home and it's probably because you're so ready to head back to school.

Summer break is fun, but honestly, in college it is way too long. Three months with absolutely nothing to do with no friends around is terrible! But the time with your family is really great and it's nice to be home with mom or grandma and to be pampered with home cooked meals and your own bed. So here's to summer break, praise jesus the semester is over.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
