The original Task Force X was created as a covert operating force for the government during World War II and was led by Captain Richard Flag. It consisted of paramilitary and meta-humans who traded a court martial for their participation. Their jobs fell under the categories of illegal and never "technically happened," and they were allowed to do them without restraint. Not only was this task force completely illegal, but all of their missions were considered suicide missions - hence the fond nickname "Suicide Squad".
In the 1950's, Rick Flag's wife died in a car crash ,and he soon followed her after he died on a mission against the "German War Wheel". Rick Flag's son, Richard Flag Jr., grew up to become an Air Force colonel and leader of the revamped Suicide Squad. He and his team handled several threats to national security ,but the squad was eventually disbanded
Decades later, the Suicide Squad was re-invented as a team who were completely expendable and sent to do covert government operations.
How was this possible? Simple. All of the members of Force X (nicknamed the Suicide Squad by the "participants") were infamous super villains that traded their service for reduced prison sentences. This team was lead by the infamous Amanda Waller.
Often portrayed with a non-threatening appearance, she is regarded as one of the most ruthless high ranking government officials in the DC comic universe. Believing that the ends justify the means, Amanda has put this belief into practice multiple times- the most notable being the formation of the Suicide Squad.
The Suicide Squad consisted of several low key criminals and Rick Flag Jr. However, once Cobra tried to use the Squad for a scheme of world dominion, it was once again disbanded ,and Waller was imprisoned for contempt of Congress.
Reviving itself as an independent organization at one million dollars a mission, the Suicide Squad once again found itself in order.
Amanda Waller soon disbanded that particular Squad,when Lex Luther became President. The Squad was banded together several more times after that to do various tasks like freeing Doomsday during the Imperiex War ,and fighting Onslaught.
The Suicide Squad has also made it on the big screen with the 2014 cartoon movie Batman: Assault on Arkham. In movie, Batman takes a back seat as Deadshot takes operational control of the Suicide Squad and they infiltrate Arkham to kill the Riddler.
In this movie, the Suicide Squad features Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Killer Frost, King Shark, Captain Boomerang, and Black Spider. Amanda Waller keeps the Squad under control using explosive collars, promising a swift end if any member deviates from the plan. Waller wants Riddler dead because he found a way to beat the system and short circuit the collars during his last mission as a member of the Squad.
Utter chaos ensues as Harley ends up freeing Joker ,and they proceeds to try to blow up all of Gotham. I definitely recommend watching the movie, it's non stop action of the best kind.
There is also talk of a 2016 live action movie about the suicide squad. I have watched the trailer and can certainly say it's another non-stop action movie that will have many explosions. That, however, is all I saw in the trailer. There was a definite lack of a clear story line, (but then again do you actually need one?) and it also shows the brief appearances of Batman.
The new Suicide Squad, however, will definitely not be the typical comic movie simplly because of the obvious fact that it is not about heroes. Overall, I think it will definitely be worth seeing and I am looking forward to it.
