September is suicide awareness prevention month, but every day needs to be a mission to let people know they are loved, they are special, and that they are worthy of LIFE. We cannot focus on this epidemic only 30 days a year because each year 42,773 people are lost to suicide. It is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. If you, or someone you know is struggling, PLEASE tell someone you can rely on. You don't want to be the girl, crying so hard that no sounds are coming out, looking in a bathroom mirror, mascara running down her face, holding a bottle of sleeping pills, praying to God she won't wake up the next morning. Depression is real, and suicide is real, and it is NOT something to be ashamed about. My battle with depression, eating disorders, and suicide has made me into who I am today. There is no shame in asking for help, and there is no shame in telling someone if you think a friend or loved one needs help. There can't be change if we don't change the stigma of suicide; depression is not just sadness, it can be fake smiles, and "I'm fine's." You are worthy of a fulfilled life, never let anyone tell you differently.
