The To-Do’s And The Not To-Do’s In A Job Interview:

How to score the job:

1. The Do's

  • Always sit up straight: this shows that you are prepared and alert during the interview.
  • Don't forget to smile: You always should act like you're happy to be there, no matter how boring it is or how nervous you are.
  • Arrive early! It's better to be there waiting for a few minutes than to be late.
  • Always bring a copy of your resume with you.
  • Always dress decently nice. No, you are not going to the prom here, but wear a nice sweater/blouse (for ladies) or a button down/polo (for the guys) with dressier pants or a skirt!
  • Always look the people who are interviewing you in the eye
  • When shaking people's hands, make your shake firm like you mean it and look them in the eye.
  • It never hurts to ask questions! It shows that you possibly did some research on the company, or are interested in what they do!
  • Bring a notepad and take notes about the information they give you.
  • Always thank your interviewer for their time!

2. The Dont's

  • Try to stay away from words like "umm," "uhh," and "like," when trying to formulate your sentence. It's okay to pause and think about what you want to say before responding to a question.
  • Do not use words in an interview that you wouldn't say to your children or your grandmother. That means NO swearing!
  • Don't bring in your cell phone, it is a huge distraction and it looks like you have better things to be doing. If you have your phone on you tucked away where it is nowhere to be seen, turn your ringer off!
  • Do not automatically assume that because you got an interview, you got the job. Don't be cocky or conceded!
  • Try to avoid asking questions about your salary until you actually score the job! Even if you get the job, you don't have to accept it! It's better to get the job then not get it at all.
  • Don't fidget (play with your hair, crack your knuckles etc.)
  • Never speak poorly of your previous employer, that looks very unprofessional!
  • Never ever ever arrive late, I can't stress this one enough!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
