Have you ever woken up in the morning, washed up, and wondered what you're going to wear for the day? You searched all over your closet and scattered around dressers looking for a perfect outfit to wear for a party or a nice stroll in the park with your bae. Then you put on the outfit, you walked out the door, and you suddenly hate the outfit and change it again. Or if you've watched shows like "Project Runway" or "The Fashion Police" and you notice they judge on cohesive styling.
This is called "Style Block." This is a twist that is similar to "writers block" but you are now having trouble finding what to wear. You would see "Style Block" everywhere, even in photo shoots or runways in New York Fashion Week. This mistake is so common that it is important to follow these guidelines for the sake of your own style, or as guys would like to call it, "your own swag!"
Don't worry! Here are some tips to cure "Style Block."
1. Brainstorm
Like before writing an essay, brainstorm what you want to wear for that day. It's good to sort out everything in your head before you try it on. When you set a plan for the day, it is the easiest way!
2. Sort Out
Sort out all of your clothing. It seems like it's a lot of work, but once you try to organize everything, it will become clear to you. ( Ex. If you are wearing a red jacket, you can combine that with a graphic T-shirt, ripped jeans, and a pair of red Addidas.) Do not put different prints together. Prints like cheetah skin and polka dots do not match, it's important that you coordinate patterns as well.
3. Put It Together
If you just put on anything, it might become tacky. Take your time and find out which clothing goes together by color, style, or season. I personally like to plan my clothes at night so that I know what I'm wearing in the morning. It's easier for me because I tend to forget and lose focus. It's always best to have a mirror with you so you won't feel confused walking out of the door.
4. Weather!
This is important. If you happen to live in a southern or western climate, you know the weather is unexpected. For a quick tip, check a local weather app on your phone to determine the weather. If the weather is too hot, or too cold, make sure you choose the right clothing for that day. For example: If it's raining outside, find you a nice hoodie, with long rain boots, or a pair of tennis shoes. If it's hot and muggy outside, wear a floppy hat with a nice long maxi dress or be casual with cargo pants and flip flops !!! Fur coats and sweats are totally cohesive for the winter.
5. Be Creative!
Don't be afraid to show your own style! It's okay to be unique as long as you know what you're doing. Just be confident and be you! Don't go wrong putting on cute accessories that suit you. Wear a nice fedora or long artistic necklaces to give your style a little bit of "pizzazz." You can even wear big glasses to bring out a nerd chic style. Simple is sometimes boring so wear what ever works for you, but keep in mind how you should dress. Remember the clothes don't bring you out; you bring out the clothes!!!
