We live in a society in which up is down and left is right. It seems the American cultural ideals have flip-flopped. One of the recent conspiracies in today's tabloid world is that the gays are trying to eradicate Christianity. There are two cases to deal with - the circuit court clerk case and the bakery case. In both cases, the very idea of a hate crime is an offense never to be uttered; however, the problem is almost a paradox.
In America, we the people have the right to reserve service to whomever and for whatever reason, unless these circumstances are based upon racism and sexism; however, gay people seem to inexplicably fall through that crack.
These cases make it a system of religious pragmatism, in which mine is the right way and yours is the wrong way. People may say that baking a cake or granting a marriage license for a homosexual individual is infringing upon their religious practices and becomes religious persecution. In fact, it's contrary to what the Christians need for their assent into heaven, the very element of religious persecution is welcomed and sought after by them; making the whole idea, that the Christians are being persecuted, a formality of planning. Yes, I said they create these problems.
America is a nation of free will; a nation in which new ideas hinge upon the notion of discovery. We as a nation must grow out of superstitions and barbaric practices. Slowly, we removed practices of human sacrifice and immorality only to find new problems that the current generation has not yet been able to remove.
Once we overcome such difficulties, I am sure that we will discover something else we don't like. I will compromise on dogs but cats I certainly will not, nor can not have in my house.
Perhaps the only way to move beyond petty skirmishes is to simply change the terms of conflict. It is no longer how I perceive a problem but how you perceive it. If you like green then like green; if I like green, it doesn't mean that you have to, too.
If only it were this simple, yet reality is ever persistent with ridiculous ways to pit brother vs. brother.
