The Best And Worst Reactions To #LoveWins

On Friday, June 26, 2015 the U.S Supreme Court made history by declaring gay marriage legal in all 50 states. The landmark decision inspired many throughout the country, and around the world, to celebrate and show their support for the LGBTQ community. Unfortunately, not everyone was happy with the decision. While most of our news feeds were filled with an outpouring of love, many others were not able to experience the same compassion. Here is a list of the ten best and worst reactions to #LoveWins.

This White House Tweet

There is nothing better than knowing the white house stands behind you.

    Manhattan

You have to admit, it's pretty cool to see the pride colors illuminated from one of the most recognizable buildings in the entire U.S.

      Ben & Jerry's

Changes name of ice cream flavor from "Cookie Dough" to "I Dough, I Dough."

While the above responses inspired compassion and made many proud to be an American, not everyone felt the same way.

Sadly, a Pride parade in Chicago resulted in violence and arrests when #blackoutpride protestors interrupted the parade.

While I whole-heartedly agree that black lives DO matter, it's a shame that violence from a very small group had to ruin what should have been a joyous celebration for Chicago.

Alabama officials, angry that same-sex couples can now happily marry, ban marriage all together in some parts of the state.

Judge Fred Hamic spoke: "Section 30-1-9 of the Alabama Code of 1975 says a probate judge may issue a marriage license... It doesn’t say a probate judge has to issue a marriage license... I will not be doing any more ceremonies."

Police in Turkey attack those celebrating at a pride parade by use of high pressure water cannons, pepper spray and the firing of rubber pellets.

A Catholic priest was spit on by a gay couple at Pride Parade.

Shouldn't we know by now that hate is not the answer?

Lastly, ISIS made sure the world knew how they felt about gay marriage - they celebrated by throwing four gay men off a roof.

All four men died from impact.

The legalization of gay marriage is a giant step towards equality. The outpouring of love for the LGBTQ community is commendable and should most definitely be praised and recognized. However, it is clear we still have a lot more work to do before #lovewins is the actual truth. Spread the love.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
