Study Tips For Your Best Semester Yet

Now that syllabus week has ended (tear), the work load has started to pick up here in Stag Country! It is super important at the start of every semester to start off on a good note in all of your classes! There are so many small things all students can do to have their best academic semester!

Go to Class!

This one is so easy, but also so important at the beginning of the semester. You will be tempted to choose sleep over class the first few weeks. But you will be thanking yourself when you get that cold in the middle of the semester that you actually went to class.

Write Out Important Dates from the Syllabus in a Planner or Calendar

Having all of your big assignments tracked out will help you to budget your time better to complete them. And it's a great excuse to invest in the cute Lilly Pullitzer planners!

Color Code Your Folders and Notebooks for Each Class

By color coding your folders and notebooks, it makes it super-easy to grab your notebooks and folders for the day when you accidentally wake up at 9:20 A.M. for your 9:30 A.M.. One less thing you have to worry about!

Make Study Groups with the people in your class

Group collaboration is a great way to study, especially for your large exams. It is also a great way to meet new people!

Make a New Study Playlist

Having relaxing music to help you study is a great way to promote focused studying. Spotify has some great playlists, if you don't want to make your own.

Find a Quiet Place You Like to Study

The library here at Fairfield offers so many great, quiet places for students to get work done. Some people may not like the library, so you have to find a spot that works best for you.

Break Any Major Studying or Projects into Small Chunks

By not leaving everything until the last minute, you will be less stressed by the end of the semester. It is always a good idea to start earlier rather than later.

Get to Know Your Professors/Go to Office Hours

This is so important if you want one of your teachers to write a recommendation letter down the line or just want some more individualized attention in a class. Professors are here to help us learn, not tear us down.

Hope everyone has a successful spring semester, Stags!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
