There are many different establishments you can work at during break, but what about a food truck? Most people wouldn't have even considered this idea when looking at places to apply to for the break. As for those who considered it, they probably didn't even consider the struggles that come with working at a food truck in the winter. Of course, it is impossible to truly see any difference unless one actually works at a food truck in different seasons.

Working at a food truck in the summer is by no means easy, but it will never be as bad as working in the winter. While working in the summer, there is always a steady stream of customers outside who want to eat. It is the perfect time to establish a regular customer base. Deliveries are light because most people go directly to the truck during their lunch breaks or while simply out shopping.

The major struggles that arise from working at a food truck in summer are the heat and large amounts of customers. Summertime is already hot enough to hit over 70 degrees, but what does that translate to inside of a food truck? The average temperature inside of a food truck is around 85 to 90 degrees. With a lunchtime or dinnertime rush, it gets even harder to work. A food truck can fit about two or three people comfortably, nowhere near enough to adequately deal with orders ranging from five to 12 at any one given time.

Working at a food truck in the winter is even more difficult due to the cold temperatures and lack of customers. The general idea of a food truck is that people can walk up to these trucks and wait for the food outside, but most people never want to endure that kind of experience in the winter. It is too cold for customers to stand outside waiting for their orders, and this is why there is always a spike in the number of deliveries that are made.

In order to avoid waiting in the cold, many regulars will call in deliveries. This leads to more stress in the actual truck because that means they are down one worker while they are out on deliveries, and a rush could happen at any time. Although it is less likely for a large group of people to come during the wintertime, it is not impossible.

Well, working at a food truck in the winter is absolutely not the worst experience in the world, but working in the summer is much easier The summer allows for less stress in the workplace environment and the amount of customers is high. Both seasons have their ups and downs, but both are incredible experiences.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
