Awwww...manicures. They're the best right? Pedicures? Even better! But, even as a girl who thoroughly enjoys treating herself to these and other things every now and then I wonder how weird some things are that we do for beauty.

Now, like I said I enjoy getting that mani/pedi every now and then. But, do my fellow ladies out there ever think about how weird it is that we put fancy colors on our nails? We match it to our outfit that day, or use it to celebrate a holiday. I mean, I have had my fair share of pumpkin and candy cane theme nails. I personally find it so strange-- who thought that it would be cool to put pink on their nails? Especially the toes! Feet are so hard to keep pretty! Yet, I feel strange if I go too long without painting my toes. I don't know but since they brought around the invention of the mani/pedi, I'm OK with it.

Makeup is great. You can express yourself so many different ways. There's day makeup, night makeup, evening makeup, it's insane! But, the weirdest part for me of all of this is eyeliner. I don't know about my ladies out there but putting that black line on my bottom eye lid makes me feel like a whole new person (especially since I can't do much more than that). Girls can do winged eyeliner, or eyeliner that is supposed to look smudged. I don't have those abilities, but it amazes me how these lines of makeup make feel so powerful. I love it. Keep doing you, ladies.

Now, this one isn't treating yourself. Actually, I think all of us hate this activity. Shaving our legs. Love the way it feels when you're done, hate having to go through the process. We do this right before a big weekend, a night out, or before going to anywhere that involves a swimsuit... I think this is another weird one. We're mammals, we're supposed to have hair, right?! Nope, according to whoever made the rules girls are supposed to get rid of theirs. I want to have a talk with the first girl who shaved her legs. I'm sure she went up to everybody, and was like, "I did this thing, everybody! Feel my leg! Feel it!" And now, it's a thing that we have to do. Well, we don't have to, but society and all...

For girls, we live in a strange world with all these different things to do to be beautiful. We don't have to do them, but if we don't we feel like we're not doing something that we're supposed to.

I say, go out and do whatever you want. Put that crazy eyeshadow on your eyes. Paint each nail a different color. Girls should not have to live by any standards someone however long ago put into place.

We can be whoever we want to be. And do whatever we want to do. Maybe someday they'll build a time machine and we can go back and ask these women what they were thinking! Until then, continue to do that routine that makes you feel like the amazing woman you are!
