There are a few characteristics that describe this generation of young men and women, but one that stands out exceedingly is the massive increase in technology use. This so-called tech-boom left a gap between two generations, your parents and yourself. You can't comprehend why they don't understand technology. However, they also don't understand how it comes so easily to you. Here are a few problems that this tech-savy generation knows all too well when it comes to dealing with their parents.
1. They hang up on you accidentally at least once per call.
It's really not hard to see the red button.
2. You walk in on them trying to change the channel with the remote for the fan.
It's better than walking in on something else.
3. When they finally get the hang of texting, they either start sending page long texts or excessively using text abbreviations.
Mom, do you even know the meaning of LOL?
4. They use your technologically inclined friends as their own personal "Geek squad."
Excuse me, but how do I switch to my front facing camera?
5. You hand them your smartphone to take a picture and pray to God it isn't blurry.
You know it's going to happen nine times out of 10.
6. When you're out of town you're just waiting for the "how do I set up the DVR to record this show?" call.
You press the green button, not the clear one.
7. You show them a random cute puppy picture on twitter and they always ask you who owns it.
Obviously, not me.
8. You try to show them a snap chat and they don't understand that your time is limited.
It's so people don't have to see more than 10 seconds of my face.
9. They are skeptical of anything involving "self-check out" or "automatic."
It's not a robot that will hack your checking account.
10. Telling them a story about something on social media also requires an explanation of how social media itself works.
Step one, please don't get one.
11. Any time your family gets a new piece of technology they assume you know as much as the manual.
I'm not Google search.
12. They always have a backup plan in case the technology fails, like printing out Mapquest while using a GPS.
Siri took us the wrong way again.
So, while it may be frustrating, never being able to use the self-check out line or always having blurry pictures taken–– just bear with them. Cut them some slack, because they are just learning. They made it this far without all the technology we have today, thats even more impressive than understanding it, anyways.
