Anxiety changes the way the brain processes information; it makes the brain believe that non-life threatening situations are actually life threatening. Sometimes looking back at the struggles makes you realize just how illogical anxiety can be. Having anxiety while in school leads to some very real and relatable fears. Might as well laugh at the struggles and feel a little less alone.

1. Getting Called On In Class

The terrifying moment when you can feel everyone in the class staring at you waiting for your answer. Basically just wanting to slide away and never ever come back. Alaska is nice this time of year, right?

2. Showing Up to Class Late

Open the door and the whole class turns to look at you. Nope, not today.

3. Meeting New People and Trying to Make Friends

Spends hours mentally preparing to see people still ends up standing in the corner freaking out. Still ending up just like the owl though.

4. Walking Into A New Place And Not Knowing What Is Going On Or Who Anyone Is

Walking in and freezing, then finding an empty spot still near people, but so you are alone. Stand there and just blend in with the crowd. *slightly throws neck out from looking back and forth so many times*

5. Practicing Saying "Here" In Your Head Over And Over During Attendance

The stress of "Do I say here or just raise my hand or do both?!?" Followed by the immediate relief if you got through it okay or the crippling embarrassment if you messed up. No matter the weather Alaska is looking pretty nice right about now.

6. Other People Marking Your Work

Sitting there watching as they silently judge every mistake you made. Every time you get a wrong answer you slide a little lower in your seat, and if it's your crush you should basically just leave right away.

7. Tests

Just, tests. Do I have to say more?

8. Presentations

When everyone starts staring at you and, all of a sudden, you forget everything you've ever learned ever. Just a neon sign flashing "AHHH" in your brain.

9. Not Having a Plan

Walking into a situation with no idea what to expect and no idea what to do. It's just a lot easier to run away before anyone realizes you were there.

10. Parent Teacher Meetings

Every single time hearing your teacher telling your parents that you need to participate more in class. Knowing that it won't be happening anytime soon.

11. Waiting Until The End Of Class To Use The Washroom.

Just the thought of getting up and walking to the front of the class, everyone staring. What if you trip? Or what if all of a sudden you forget how to get back to your seat? Everyone will know that you pee, because no one else goes pee. Thanks, anxiety. I can't argue with that thought process.

12. Not Being Able to Ask Questions

I don't understand but you can bet I won't be asking for help in front of the whole class. I'd rather fail the class then ask one question. The logic is foolproof.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
