The Struggles Of Having Allergies

The Struggles Of Having Allergies
Melissa K. Law

Oh spring time, how you are the bane of my existence. Yes, it is beautiful out, and I love being able to go outside in just shorts, a t-shirt and a light jacket. I may have been waiting for months while ensuring a freezing cold, dead winter, but the reality is that I hate spring time.

Everything thing comes back to life in the spring, including allergies. Flowers sprout, trees bud, bees start to pollinate; all of that good stuff. Thus meaning that the second I wake up, I am going to sneeze.

Allergies, well, to put it bluntly, are a pain in the ass.

Starting with the fact that you can't sleep with your window open even if the night time breeze is perfect. Having your window open would be like inviting all of the pollen into your room. Thus leaving you to wake up in a stuffy, miserable mess.

Not to mention after waking up sneezing you then instantly know what you have to do next. Check the pollen count for the day, something that can be dreadful. Rainy days in the spring seem to the be only type of "sunshine" for allergy sufferers considering there isn't any pollen floating around. When you check the pollen count and see the word "high" you know what kind of day you are going to have.

Your nose suddenly turns into a faucet. I know people can relate to this one all to well. No matter how many times you blow your nose, sniffle or sneeze you still are stuck walking around with a tissue in your hand. You really can't avoid this one, my suggestion is to try a nose spray.

Makeup during this season better be one of two things: nonexistent or concrete. No matter how much you try to fight it, rubbing your eyes is bound to happen. And once you start, you can't stop itching them. No relief will come from it either, which makes it so much worse. God forbid you were wearing makeup when you itched your eyes because that would mean you most likely will be turning into a raccoon.

No matter what type of medicine you take, you always seem to feel sluggish. You take non-drowsy medicine and yet still feel like you could fall asleep standing up. Going through your day seems to lead to looking forward to just passing out; that way you can get some relief.

One of the worst things to me is the constant feeling that you have to sneeze. It interrupts your thought, sentence, conversation. You feel it coming on, stop everything you're doing, and wait. Sometimes a sneezing attack does follow and sometimes you lose the sneeze and feel defeated. Either way you can't win.

There isn't a whole lot you can do while suffering from allergies. You just have to be diligent with your medicine, check the pollen count, and roll with the punches. Luckily this season only lasts about three months, you can do it!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
