Struggles Every CSU Student Knows Too Well

Struggles Every CSU Student Knows Too Well

The 10 struggles that unite us as Rams.

1. Construction

Everyone knows that CSU really stands for Construction State University. Without fail there will always be some construction project closing down areas of campus, causing highly inconvenient traffic jams.

2. The stalker squirrels

Your food is not safe. They know that you have food and they will follow you until you give it to them. They can also be found hiding in trees on the plaza or on the oval dropping things on unsuspecting students below.

3. Those Clark A chairs

These chairs are not only awkward to get into, but if you’re one of the lucky ones to get a broken one, every single time that you move or breathe your desk partner's chair moves with you. Of course getting out must be timed just right so that you don’t end up squished face to face with your desk partner as you both try to get out of these traps. No matter what the situation, you will be bonding with your desk partner.

4. Bicyclists and long boarders

Fort Collins is a very bike-friendly town, but this sometimes seems to be interpreted by bicyclists as “you are a car and are entitled to the same rules as cars.” Bikes, stay in the bike lane. Long boarders, just like bikes are not cars, YOU are not a bicycle. That bike lane is for bikes; you can go and fight with the pedestrians on the sidewalk.

5. Bike cops

Want to know how to avoid getting pulled over by a bike cop? Just don’t ride your bike. They will find a reason, or you will break some obscure rule, or you will just be late to class one day and roll through a stop sign. Yes, they aren’t real cops, but that doesn’t stop them from acting like it.

6. "You Deserve Hell Guy" and "Crazy Tampon Lady"

We’ve all either seen them or heard them; the ever inviting man who tells us all exactly why we are going to hell and the charming woman who waves tampons and crucifixes at us. They are always good for a laugh or a shouting match.

7. The “Can I ask you a question” cult people

They don’t want directions and they don’t want to know the time. They want you to join them. For more information, please Google “CSU cult church” and you will get all of the info need. They are a staple on campus that we have all learned to avoid like the plague.

8. Having classes in unrelated buildings

Because we have a lot of classes and a lot of students and a lot of construction, sometimes these classes end up in strange buildings that have nothing to do with the subject they are about. For example, German class in the Plant Science building and English class in Engineering.

9. Wearing green, orange, and gold outside of CSU

Unfortunately, in the real world, orange, green, and gold are not colors that are socially acceptable to be worn together in public. On campus or in Fort Collins people understand, but when walking around the grocery store back home this combination gets some weird looks.

10. The Yates stairs

Don’t worry about leg day; the Yates stairs will take care of that workout for you. If you have unfortunately done leg day before climbing the stairs, I am so terribly sorry. It functions as the greatest StairMaster machine of all time.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
