The Struggles Of Being A College Student During An Election Year

Being in college is an exciting time when it comes to politics. You’ve waited for so many years to finally be able to vote (unless you’re a senior and it’s your second time--still exciting), and it’s finally time. As primaries begin and elections seem closer than ever, you must decide who you stand with and who you stand against, and that’s not so easy on a college campus.

1. Constantly being harassed by tables of die-hard liberals outside of campus buildings trying to convince you to vote.

Try leaving the dining hall without a swarm of Bernie fans coming up to you asking for your contact information and bribing you with a sticker--which you ultimately accept.

2. Not being able to make it through a single class without a debate breaking out.

When you’re having a class discussion in philosophy, or even biology, you just know some political shots will be fired--and odds are you will be offended.

3. Having to navigate around closed roads and intense traffic when a candidate comes to speak, or in some cases, when a full-on debate is held on campus.

How does this school expect me to attend all my classes when it takes me an extra 20 minutes to get there?

4. Getting distracted in the library by scanning the room for students’ laptop stickers to see who they support.

To the guy listening to heavy metal across the room--I see your Hilary sticker--and I love it.

5. Having to constantly stop yourself from making passive aggressive comments when you hear a group of Trump supporters preaching crazy statements as you’re walking to class.

Okay, if you’re going to voice these opinions, do it in the privacy of your own dorm room.

6. Having to make new friends when half of the people you talk to don’t agree with you on any political standpoint.

It’s hard enough having to make all new friends when you go to college, but on top of it having to avoid certain political party members in the process just makes it all even harder.

7. Having to finally deal with the responsibility of paying attention to debates and learning about important world issues.

We’ve all been those people at one time who took a free online “who should I vote for?” quiz to see who they really liked.

8. Being a frustrated broke college student when you hear about free college and wondering how you got so unlucky in missing it.

I’m just gonna eat my Ramen in bed and cry while I watch the Democratic debate.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
