Black might not be one of the “ROY G BIV” colors, but is still my favorite! Not only is black so versatile but it can be good for any occasion: football games, funerals, night out, dates, any time you feel fat and more! However, we run into a little bit of trouble with this piece of perfection, summer. Not just any summer now, no, but summer in the south is especially hot and muggy. Which means wearing the darkest color possible might be a no go.
Not to mention that during summer, everyone says that you “must wear” light, bright colors, floral patterns and lots of bathing suits… that doesn’t leave much room for a black on black ensemble… Excuse me?
If you’re like me, you wake up, open your closet and stare and what black tops and bottoms to mix and match today. But on the days you have back to back classes, it's really hard not to swap the usual black shorts and black tank top for a floral and flowy sundress. Why, that’s just the opposite of the dark, sultry outfit that you’re used to, so now what?
Well, you basically have three options.
- Wear that perfect black on black on black outfit, suffer through the heat wave, and hope you don’t sweat past the point of no return.
- Wear a partially black outfit--that way, at least you can keep some of your identity, but now you will only mildly sweat.
- Or confuse the entire school population, wear (dare I say) NO BLACK and swap it for a cute romper, sun dress or “boho” Kourtney Kardashian-inspired piece. At least with this option, you can be your alter ego for a day… or at the very least a couple of hours.
Going to class is only one of the battles people who survive off of black wardrobes face. We also have to deal with the struggles of Happy Hour, brunches and daytime adventures around the town. When the whole squad is matching in a baby blue or white crop top and light denim ensemble, your all black attire can completely change the potentially perfect Instagram picture; now, that is something you do NOT want to be blamed for. And don’t even get me started on how any piece of black will ruin a cute “smiling with my mimosa and avocado toast” brunch picture; for these instances, we might just have to give in. Sorry, girls.
If reading this made you realize how much you hate summer, no worries because fall is right around the corner! Soon, we can indulge on black nails, shoes, accessories, and yes, of course, clothing!
