I’m so terrified for the future of our world as we move forward in this presidential election. Yes, I’m a college student (apparently that makes me knowledgeable about this sort of thing?!) That’s what other college students write anyway, “I’m a college student voting for [insert said offensive presidential candidate here].”
And, yes, I am a feminist. Which automatically makes you think that I would vote for Hillary, right?
Well, you’re wrong. I’m not. People seem to relate feminism to just being female, but it is so much more than that. When you’re a feminist, a true feminist, you begin to take on the oppression of another person who was abused by the system — a system of oppression that Donald Trump seems to be adding to.
If I haven’t answered your question yet, no, I am not voting for Trump either.
Deal with it.
However, Trump once said, and I quote, Hillary is using her “woman card.” This, to a certain extent, is true, although I think we may have misinterpreted how he meant this. He led on for us to believe that all women would vote for Hillary simply because she has a vagina. Once I really stopped to think about what he meant by this, I think he meant something else.
When it came down to it, all women would vote for Hillary because of her ideals and vision for the future of women and healthcare. Not simply because she's a woman.
Yes, this may be true and I don’t really see a problem with this. It is a justified support. Especially when you consider the manner in which Trump speaks about women. It is disgraceful and inappropriate. But then again so is lying and cheating which just further supports my notion that we are “Straight Outta Options.”
I believe that there is a certain demeanor a president must uphold. Donald Trump lacks it. He is rude, offensive, and instills fear in a large population of our country. I think to represent the entirety of the U.S. you must be respectful and hold yourself to a higher standard.
So, you think Trump because he has a love for our country and wants to “make America great again?" OK, a large portion of us would love to see that happen, however, the way he is going about this isn't admirable.
Without delving into the logistics of Obama’s two terms as a president (because that’s a whole different article) He is respectful, presentable, and appropriate. He sets a great precedent for the rest. I am content, or even happy, as you will, growing and maturing at the time of his presidency.
It’s inevitable that every president is going to make a mistake. We are all human. Could you imagine the pressure that comes with being a president? Balance. When all of the good outweighs the bad, we have accomplished something.
I recently had a conversation with a colleague on the nature of the election. Originally, he started out as a Trump supporter. At the end of the conversation, he could see the potential for Trump to create a world of destruction.
After laughs, jokes, and a pretty elaborate plan to create our own bunker right alongside other doomsday (Trumpsday?) preparers, we came to a conclusion. We would vote for neither.
We are Switzerland.
Have we lowered our standards to “vote for this candidate because they’re not as bad as the other?”
Is remaining impartial and not casting a vote detrimental?
I don’t support Hillary. I don’t support Trump. I am “Straight Outta Options.”
