Stop telling women to "have it all" and stop using that term.
Nobody tells men that they're trying to "have it all" when they have kids and a career. No one asks them where his children are, or if he loves his children, or any other asinine question about his domestic skills. Why not? Aren't his kids his responsibility too?And what is that even supposed to mean? What's "it" and how could you measure it to be all? Currently, it's used to describe a woman who wants to have kids AND have a career. WHAT??? HOW DARE SHE??? HER KIDS ARE GOING TO GROW UP TO BE MONSTERS!!
First of all, no they're not, Becky Sue, so give it a rest.
And second, why can't a woman have a career and have kids? If that's what makes her happy, let her do it!
**Shocking Disclaimer: Not all women's main purpose in life is to have children.**
I know mine's not, and I know a lot of my female friends who don't want children because they want to have a fulfilling career. And I know plenty of female friends who do want children and can't wait to start their family. And I also know women who want to do both!
And let me tell you something: They can! There is absolutely nothing is wrong with having a family and having a career, or neither or only one. What somebody else has decided to do with their lives is not, and never will be, up to you.
So, stop asking women if they're trying to have it all and start complementing them on kicking ass all day.
I leave you with this gif of Leslie Knope:
