Why Diet Shaming Is Wrong

Veganism is fine. Eating meat is fine. Judging one or the other is not.

I'm a vegetarian; I have been for a few years now. My brother is a vegetarian, too. My mom is a vegan, as is her boyfriend so it's probably obvious to you by now that you're going to find little to no meat products in my home unless it's for my dog. This fact does not mean that my entire family and I frown upon meat eaters.
Over the past few years, Vegans and Vegetarians have developed a negative connotation due to the fact many believe we judge and shame people who do not live the same lifestyle as us. This isn't true and this very stereotype has lead to many people assuming that I'm one of those loud, preachy vegetarians who yells at people in the meat section of the supermarket and refuses to associate myself with those who do not choose to cut animals out of their diet.
Yes, I am a vegetarian and, yes, I am a vegetarian for ethical purposes but, no, I will not get mad at you for eating a chicken sandwich in front of me. I will never tell you how to live your life and I don't expect you to tell me how to live mine.
That being said, this uprising of attempting to shame people into changing their diet really needs to stop. Telling meat eaters that they're nothing but murderers and disgusting human beings is not cool. Telling vegans and vegetarians that they need to lighten up and incorporate protein into our diet isn't cool either.
At the end of the day the only way you will ever be able to have an intelligent conversation will be when you open your mind and allow yourself to step into the other person's shoes. You should never go through life believing that everyone has the same perspective because you will be more than disappointed.
I have my beliefs and my stances that, if asked, I will gladly explain to you but you can trust me when I say I will never come at you unprovoked with remarks and insults about your choice of diet, just as I believe nobody else should either.
The best way to live your life is to realize that you are the only one living it; nobody else can live it for you and you cannot make anybody live yours.
Once we all realize this maybe we'll be able to eat our salads and hamburgers together in harmony.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
