With summer classes starting again today, I got me thinking of all does little icebreakers we used to do on the first day of class. Today was the first day of second part of summer classes, the professor decided that a good way to introduce ourselves and get acquaintance with each other was to play the game "two truths and one lie".
For those of you that do not know the game, it's pretty easy to understand, like the name of the game says, you have to say two truths and one lie, without telling anyone which one is the lie and the people in the class have to guess which one out of the three is the lie.
Well, we played that game today in class, and as I was sitting there, listening to everyone say whatever they wanted to say, it got me thinking of the endless possibilities that I could say. Many people do not really think about it, they just go up there and say what they want, but the moment you go up there, it seems as if you have blanked.
You start to realize that whatever you said, would be how people see you for the rest of the class. The moment where the class goes "oh, she's cool", your very first impression.
You might be wondering why that's really of any importance at all, but the importance comes from listening to one girl tell her things, and I notice the guy in front of me start laughing and recording her as she spoke. I have to admit, she did say things that were rather odd, but it was not correct for the guy to record her.
We now live in a world where everything must be digitally documented, meaning you uploaded on Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, anywhere you want, and now it's available for the whole world to see.
We try to tell each other that you're a certain type of person, someone that respects everyone, doesn't judge, and things of that nature. You think that by doing those things, it makes you better than the rest of the people, but then comes moments like that, someone else is up there trying to think of their three simple things to say to the class, and you couldn't really think of anything, so you say the first thing that comes to your head, and it might have been something embarrassing for you, but now the whole world on social media will know about it.
Here the importance is how one single moment can really make the difference, whether you were the one being recorded, or you were the one that recorded other people, at that moment, you have to make a choice, and in that instant, you become yourself or someone common, someone like everyone else
