There always seems to be that moment when you look at your younger sibling and realize they really are not that young anymore. It is definitely a bittersweet moment for the older sibling. You are so proud of your little brother or sister and all that they have accomplished. But on the other hand, that sweet little kid is not too little and not really a kid anymore.
The tables turn on you once the little kid you use to pick on decides to sprout into this giant. People commonly mistake your younger sibling to be older than you. The first and second and fifth time is pretty insulting, but after the 10th time it becomes a family inside joke.
They turn in their teddy bears for car keys and they swap their play phones for the latest iPhone. All you want is for them to just stop growing up and just stay the cute, innocent, somewhat annoying youngster.
They no longer need you to protect them from the bullies on the playground or to answer every single question they have. They can probably answer half the questions you have now. Kids these days are just so smart and wow, they seem to amaze us every day.
Passing down of hand me downs seems to change from you to them to them to you. It can actually be quit the blessing with them constantly growing. You get twice the amount of clothing in half the regular time. They find it humorous that their older sibling is getting their hand me downs.
They amaze you with how much they are actually growing up. Instead of being a tattletale, they are now being leaders in different school organizations. They are talking about which colleges they want to look at and talk about how they cannot wait to graduate. It is crazy to think that somehow in a few years they will, in fact, wear a cap and gown.
Older siblings we are clearly getting older and becoming adults. Our younger siblings are right behind us and well, that is just scary. Little ones, do not grow up too fast because before you know it, you will be deciding what jobs to apply to instead of what colleges. Enjoy all your time together because clearly we have learned that time flies. Have as many movie nights, dinner dates, deep talks as you can fit it into this crazy thing we call life.
