Have an attitude of gratitude

Gratitude is something that is not practiced amongst everyone. For some, it's hard to have gratitude at all. There are curveballs and hardships we all go through in life because that's just the way it is. But we sometimes get caught up in the smallest of worries--worries that won't matter in five years, let alone one. It is a fact that 85% of things we worry about never actually happen. 85%! We get so caught up in day-to-day routines and procedures that we forget to look around and see all of the amazing people and opportunities we have in our lives.

I failed my math test this week, what am I going to do?

I know failing a test is never a good feeling, but it is not the end of the world. It may feel like it at the time but, really, what does that test matter? Take a look five years into the future. That test will not prohibit you from getting your degree or getting a job. It's just a test!

I didn't work out today, I'm going to gain 10 pounds.

For those who workout, we've all felt this way at one time or another. The truth is, that will never happen! It's OKAY to skip a few days of working out. Life gets in the way, there may be other important things to do. If you are able and healthy enough to workout, then there is no worry or problem at all.

You look fine, I promise.

Maybe you didn't get much sleep last night and you think you look exhausted. But the truth is, no one is paying attention to the way you look. We've all been there. No one is going to care about the way you look, it's all in your head.

Ugh, he/she doesn't have an interest in me.

I think we all know what it feels like when the person you have an interest in doesn't like you back. You're awesome. If they don't like you, then they aren't worthy. You don't need to prove yourself to anybody.

If I don't get this job, I'm going to look like a loser.

Stop caring about what others think. It's not the end of the world. Instead of beating yourself up for something that may not even happen, think about how happy you'll be when you get the job. If it takes a turn, go out and look for another job. Don't dwell on the negative.

The thing is, we stress about so many things that never happen or do not have any bearing on us whatsoever. 15% of out worries are actually legitimate, and the other 85% are things that never happen, and we spend way too much time worrying about them. We need to take a step back and look at the things life has blessed us with. Love, family and friendship are some of the things that really matter in life. We aren't put on this earth to dwell and stress over little things. So that test you failed or that job you didn't get, don't worry about it. Things have a way of working themselves out, and we need to have gratitude for being alive and having purpose.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
