Why You Should Stop Being Rude In Class

For as long as I can remember in school, there have always been students who are disrespectful to both their fellow classmates and their teachers. I remember back in high school, eagerly waiting for college, which was sure to come complete with classes who did not have students who are blatantly rude to professors and peers. Because by the time you are 18+ years old you should know how to act in a respectful manner, right? Wrong, here we are four years into college and I still find myself shooting angry "can you please shut up" glances to peers in a handful of my classes and I know that I'm not the only one that does this.

When I go to class I expect few things, that I feel the majority of my peers do as well. First off I expect to learn something new, second I expect to be able to do so without being distracted. That being said when I walk into lecture and take my seat it is infuriating when a student or students will not stop talking to each other or are rude to the professor, essentially distracting the entire class.

Just the other day two out of my three classes had to stop while the professor had to single out students that were disturbing the entire class.I have to ask you what is the point of this behavior? No one is benefitting and I know that it has got to be uncomfortable when a professor singles you out in front of a couple hundred people.

To all you people who go to class and talk over the professor and distract other students I have a lot to say to you, some comments and some questions.

First of all, do you realize that when you come to class after class and cause a distraction, when the professor stops lecture, you are affecting not just your own education but everyone else in the class well? Starting being a little considerate of your peers, college isn't cheap and you are hindering your peers education by your selfish actions.

Second, remember these little things called recommendation letters? Professors remember the students who come in late everyday and talk over them and sit on their phones the whole time. I'm not so sure that your professor, who is extremely connected in his or her field is going to be willing to help you out with getting a job down the road if you keep this act up.

Also, why do you even bother coming to class? You are not learning anything as you and your friend talk about what happened at the frat party this weekend or the latest episode of The Walking Dead. Wouldn't you rather just do us all a favor and stay home in bed than be obnoxious to the entire lecture hall? While we are on the topic of being obnoxious stop packing up early. Earlier this semester a professor of mine went on a rant about treating your classes as you would your job. Now, to my knowledge you don't get to leave your job anytime you like so stop doing this with your classes. It is not only affecting your schooling but it is distracting to everyone in the room. "Well, I'm just one person." Could you imagine the chaos there would be if everyone acted this way? Wait just 30 more seconds to pack your bag and leave class like the other 300 students.

Lets not forget how expensive college is and that it is a sunk cost, meaning that the cost of college does not correlate to it's use. Not going to class is wasting money and your time. You don't go out and buy something say a car and then let it sit there and never use it, stop doing this with college.

We are a generation of millennials and acting in rude ways in class is only perpetuating the stereotypes about our generation. Stop promoting that we are all disrespectful, ungrateful people. "One bad apple spoils the barrel." Stop spoiling our barrels people.

And last but certainly not least lets not forget how luck we all are to be in college. There are thousands and thousands of people who would willingly take your place at your university. College is not a luxury everyone gets. It is a privilege to go to college and have a college education. Start taking advantage of this opportunity and begin to use it to better yourself.

I do not know if you all honestly do not care about school or if you were never taught manners and how to act in public. But regardless, you are a young adult and it is time you start acting as one. Please start to treat your professors with respect, they are people just like you and me who put a substantial amount into what they do. Start to be aware of your actions and ask yourself if someone else was doing this in a class that you were trying to learn something in would you be angry? If your answer is yes, it is time for you to reevaluate your actions.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
