I Still Need My Parents, Even In My 20s

There are still some things I'll always need them for.

I Still Need My Parents, Even In My 20s

As we get older, we tend to think that we don't need out parents as much as we did when we were younger and still living at home with them. I'll admit, I thought that once I went away to college, I would be able to do everything on my own and rarely need their help. But, here I am almost done college and in my 20s, and there are still things I need my parents for.

Appointments

Don't get me wrong, I know how to schedule an appointment; it's really not that hard to figure out. But, there are times when I'm talking with a doctor and there are things that I just truly don't know, even at 20. Things that I have relied on my mom and dad to take care of and are now my responsibility. Besides, it's just so much easier to ask your parents to make your appointment for you. Might be lazy, but they do know all the information.

Advice.

Whether it is advice on a relationship, school, friends or just life, your parents are the ones who you will need there for you when things get confusing. They're older than you are and they really do know a lot more than us, as much as we like to think we know more than they do. They have been through the experiences we are currently going through and that's why you still will need your parents at this age. Sure, you can ask your friends for advice and sometimes, that is better. But for the most part, parents are the best people to go to because they know these problems from beginning to end.

Money.

Especially if you're in college, having parents that will help with money is great. There are times when money will be tight and you might need a couple extra bucks to hold you over. Parents will always be there for you when you need their help. They aren't going to let you starve and be broke.

Just to talk.

For me, there are times when all I want is to talk to my mom or dad. Especially being away at college, hearing the familiar voices and feeling at home is a little something I need to get through the day. And on days when I am feeling really homesick and missing my family, just talking makes it all better.

To be a friend.

Honestly, parents are the best friends you will ever have. They know almost everything about you. They know what makes you happy and what you hate, they have been with you since day one. You can show your true colors to your parents and they won't judge you because they love you more than anything else in the world. So if you feel alone and like you have no one, remember you always have your parents no matter what.

To love.

Sometimes, it can feel like parents might not love you as much as they say you do. But, truth is, they do love you more than anything in the entire world. They have been by your side and helping you grow since day one, they even loved you nine months before they knew what you would be like. Parents give their unconditional love to you all the time and would certainly give up anything to make sure you were alright.

It may seem like we don't need our parents all the time. Yes, we don't need them to make our food for us or wipe our noses when we're sick. We don't need them to tuck us in at night and make sure there are no monsters under our beds. But we do need them and we always will need them. No matter how old we get, parents will be the only things we will constantly need.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
