"Still Here" By Fractures

I was totally stumped on an article this week so I guess I’ll write another article review. I gotta stick to what I know, right? This album is called Still Here by Fractures. Fractures is one person band from Melbourne Australia. His real name is Mark Zito. He apparently fractured his neck back in 2013 (that may be how he got the name) and started making music. He has released an EP and a couple singles in the past couple years. But on Friday, February 10th, the glory day came where his full debut album came out. It’s hard for me to say that this album was his “debut album” because I actually thought that his last EP which was self-titled was actually an album. I just had to go refresh myself on the difference between an album and an EP. I knew at one time, but I forgot. “Still Here” has 11 tracks on it, whereas his other EP only has 8 songs on it. I considered 10 songs good enough to be an album and I usually say half that is an EP. Anyway, enough talk, let’s get to the tracks. I’m not going to discuss all of them, just a few favorites because I’ve taken so much of your time already. Besides, someone already interviewed him and he went through the entire album track by track and discussed what each song is about.

One of my personal favorites is track #10 it’s called I Don’t Mind. It’s barely over six minutes, which is really long for him. Mark said that this one was about jealousy. At first, I didn’t see it. It took me really listening to the lyrics to understand. I didn’t think that was what it was about. Like the man wrote the song, he clearly knows what it’s about and not some amateur American. But it’s just a song that is slow and soft with repetitive lyrics. It was an instant favorite.

One of my other favorites is Lowcast. He had sent out this song as a single a week or two before the release and I was in heaven. This song has a good fast rhythm and just a song that you can sit and be happy without it being a pop song. It’s a shorter song, but it gets the message across. My computer is screaming at me to fix it because apparently Lowcast isn’t a word.

My other favorite is Timelines. I really just like his voice in this. His range is good, he doesn’t have a high voice, but not a low voice either, but both his highest and his lowest are displayed in this song. I just wish I knew the lyrics to this better. The album has been out a week and the lyrics still aren’t online. Those are such 21st century problems.

I think I’m going to start doing these monthly for 2017. I’m not going to buy all the albums. I just bought the xx’s and this album because I was already familiar with those artists and was anticipating those albums. I’ll just stream the others. I broke my unwritten rule on both of these albums. I wait until I’ve listened to the album five times fully and then I buy the album. This keeps me from just buying an album when something comes out on impulse. Both my iTunes library and my bank account have thanked me for this rule.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
