Sticks And Stones May Bruise My Bones, But Words Will Never Break Me

The layers of overcoming bullying.

Sticks And Stones May Bruise My Bones, But Words Will Never Break Me
Epic Victories

I never saw myself as someone who was bullied. All through elementary school, and even middle school I was never teased or manipulated by anybody. But throughout high school and mostly my senior year, I started to become a target for my peers and even the younger generation. Why? At first I did not have a single clue and it was hurtful, the unknown, but then I started to piece it all together.

I am not one to let someone push people around, so I stand up to the bullies. Whether it be for myself or for someone I see it happening to, it doesn't matter. What does matter is how you handle it. High schoolers are petty and not only them, but even the people out of high school who continue to stay stuck in their ways. They are going to try their hardest to knock you down with their words. Stay true to you. If you are not being treated right, you leave that situation. If they want to become nasty and hurtful towards you, so be it. That just shows everyone who they truly are and you just keep being you.

Drama is huge in high school. I am here to tell you, stay out of it. The people who are jealous of you, they are going to make fun of you. They might talk about how you do your makeup, hair, they may even go as far as making disgusting rumors about you just to get under your skin. Blow it off. You know what is true and what is false and your real friends know it too.

I sometimes find myself asking questions in my head like: How did I get through this without a single thought of ending everything? How did I get past all of the lies and hurtful comments from the snotty kids hiding behind their screens? But then I remember how. I remembered that none of those people mattered and that I had so many people on my side who had my back. That is what got me through. Overcoming bullying from those who do not matter actually is not as hard as you think. Those that are saying rude comments about you, the ones making up rumors to make themselves the center of attention, they don't matter at all. If they have to use you as a way to become "liked", that is just sad and proves how important you really are.

Do not let bullying get to you. Bullies have nothing better to do and that is why they go out of their way to do what they do. You are so much better than that. Do not stoop to their level, just keep moving on and show them how wrong they are about everything. Spend time with your true friends, and make new ones everywhere you go because that is the kind of person you should be. The kind that does not let evil defeat, but remorse.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
