The Steps I Took Into Living A Happier Life

We all experience those good and great moments in our lives; and sometimes what follows those highs, are the lows, the not-so-good moments. You can't hide from these times in your life, because while the bad moments can be overwhelming and emotional, these often are the most valuable life lessons we learn.

So, without the bad moments, we cannot find and or appreciate the good moments. The following are the steps I took into living a happier life, but before you say anything, yes, I'm 18, soon to be 19, and I have noticed an improvement in my mental, physical and emotional state of mind.

Appreciate everything.

This is a major key to being happy. I have noticed that with everything I have in my life, my family, friends, the house, and town I grew up in, and many more things both tangible and intangible, I began to appreciate the life I am privileged to live.

Money and/or objects don’t buy happiness.

This is a big one. You often see celebrities on social media flashing their fancy cars, houses, etc. while posing with the biggest smile. Items only bring temporary happiness. It's having a loving family, true friends, your health, and treasured memories that are important and bring you a lifetime of happiness.

Don’t worry about what others are doing, focus on yourself.

How can anyone ever achieve happiness if they are fixated on others? That's right, you can't, it's impossible. Stop worrying about what your friends are doing, why weren't you invited, etc. You need to do what makes you happy, be a leader, not a follower. You'll be amazed how these little things can give you a new perspective. Personally, when I began to focus on myself, I began to achieve things I never thought possible.

Forgive those who have hurt you.

You ask, why would you forgive the person who did you wrong? It's not easy to do, but it honestly helps with the healing process. Forgiveness doesn't have to take place right away, it may take some time. It is only when you come to terms and accept the situation, without holding any grudges, you will begin to heal and find happiness; remember everything happens for a reason.

Remove toxic people from your life.

You do not need people in your life who are negative, fake, cause you stress., or don't put any effort into your friendship/relationship. Keep the people around who are positive, have your best interest in mind, and you don't constantly have to question their motives.

By utilizing these techniques, you will begin your journey of living a happier life. Personally, I am in a great place in my life, focusing on my education/career, and being the best person I can be, while appreciating everything life has to offer. Spend a few minutes each day appreciating the things around you, take notice of the beautiful nature that is so often taken for granted!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
