The infamous Tally Plague. Saturday night comes along and you cannot refuse a night out on the town with the girls. You are having the time of your life screaming the words to “Stacy’s Mom.” In a drunken haze, you look to your left and see some boy hacking up a lung on the dance floor, spreading his germs over everything and everyone in sight. Sunday morning comes, and you realize you have more than just a bad hangover. You have the Tally Plague.
The Tally Plague is much more than just your common cold. You can’t breathe out of either nostril, your head feels like it is going to explode, and going to class is the last thing on your mind. Monday rolls around but don’t you dare think about going to Health and Wellness, because you will only be stranded in a small, germy waiting room filled with ten other students all waiting for at least five hours. You barrel through the week with more stress than imaginable, riding shotgun on the Struggle Bus. After days and days of rest and recovery, you think, how could I have prevented this? Well, look no further!
1. Sleep well. Sleep often. Late nights at Stroz are sometimes unavoidable, but most nights try to get in bed at a decent hour.
2. Drink plenty of water and eat well. Fuel your body. No, a bowl of ramen does not count as a nutritious dinner.
3. Wash your hands. After touching desks and door knobs all day, you need to scrub those germs away.
4. Make time for exercise. A healthy body is a healthy mind! Maybe check out the Stairmaster, it has the best view in all of the Leach.
5. Dress for the weather. Tallahassee winter calls for switching your Norts to leggings and your frat tanks to frat tees.
6. Skip a night of going out. We all know clubs and bars are breeding grounds for the Tally Plague.
7. Do not swap saliva unless you know where it’s been. We hae all had our fair share of blackout make-outs with randos on the dance floor. Now, grow up.
Follow these seven simple steps and you will steer clear of the Ebola of Tallahassee, otherwise known as the Tally Plague.
