We may just be sisters by marriage but we're so much more than that.
I have a brother and I thank God for him because he's one of the best things in my life and he's my biggest protector, but there's something about just wanting to have a sister. Whether they are your step, half, blood or a really close friend they feel like family. The thing is you don't get to choose your family, and you really don't get to choose who your parents marry and who becomes your new siblings. If you're lucky you get amazing step siblings who make it seem like you've been sisters from the very start.
I "got" my little sister a little later in life when my mom got married. She's younger than me and boy can she push my buttons, she figured out in just a short amount of time how to make me crazy but also how to be my best friend. She listens to all my rants, helps make my days a little more brighter and honestly has just became my best friend.
You see them as your new step sister, not just as your sister. It takes a little while to get use to having a new sister in the family and sometimes you may hate it and wish you didn't have one but you'll realize that they are there to stay and learn to love them not just as your "step" sister but like she's been they from the beginning.
Having a sister is so many things but the the biggest thing is they are such a blessing. Even when they are driving you crazy, you can't help but still love them. Having someone who looks up to you and wants to be like you is such a powerful thing, it makes you want to be 10x the person you already are. You want to live up to their expectations and show them how to be the best they can be. Someone you can talk to about anything, hangout with, teach them things about hair, makeup and all those great things you want to teach someone. Someone to look up to you and wants to be like you, I've always wanted that.
I thank God not just for giving me the sister I always wanted but giving me someone who became my best friend.
