It's uncomfortable. It is. To step out of your box and do something you normally wouldn't do, but stepping out your comfort zone is necessary for a happy, healthy life. God has called us to be examples of who Jesus was and everything He did was out of the normality of secular living.
Listen to God
It sounds cliche, but having an open heart to what the Lord wants you to do start by listening and obeying his commands. It isn't something that comes easy, but making the conscious effort to try will make it easier.
Love God and Love Your Neighbor
It is simple, yet sometimes so hard to do. Azusa Pacific University's passage this year revolves around this verse and it has been resonating in my heart more than ever. Yes, I love God. Yes, I love my neighbor. But are these two commandments the ones I put above all others? Love on your neighbor as if it is yourself. We need to focus on loving others and God with our entire heart and all relationships will fall into place. Loving on others will allow others to love on you.
Do What You Are Called To Do
It is scary to go into the unknown. We like to know the result of everything before we do it. Whether it be the end of a book or what someone will say in response to a question. You want to know. You won't go into a friendship or relationship if you know it won't last. We were called to trust God and his plans he has for us and that requires servantship and honor to his request. Whether you're called to go across the country, to serve as a student leader, or as simple as setting aside time to talk to God, you should be willing to do just that. It takes discernment and faith to do what God has called you to do, but if you follow through, you'll be rewarded.
Trust Yourself
As cliche as it sounds, you need to trust in yourself throughout the process of stepping out of your comfort zone. You need to be your own cheerleader if you want to be successful in this process. You are strong enough. You are capable of doing anything you out your mind and heart to. Just trust yourself and God will be holding your hand as well.
2 Timothy 1:7 "For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control."
