How The Talk Of The Election Is Stealing My Education

Every day in class I find myself becoming more and more frustrated. I'm a student who enjoys going to class and learning about the career I one day plan on working in. This semester specifically is one that is important now that almost all of my core classes are taken care of. But, how am I suppose to learn about my major of choice if in every class all we talk about is the presidential election?

Hear me out, I understand that this is a huge election, and for most millennials my age this is the first election we can vote it. However, 45 minutes is a long time to go on about our nation's choice of candidates when class time is only an hour and fifteen minutes.

Yesterday during my advertising class, the majority of the duration of class was spoken about the debate. Why is 45 minutes necessary? I can understand if we took 10 minutes in the beginning of the class to hear some opinions, but after 15 minutes of discussion I was completely checked out and just simply not interested in the discussion anymore.

I started to take notes from the textbook instead, since we have a test coming up. I wasn't disruptive, and continued to teach myself chapter two of the textbook. When my professor noticed me typing, he asked me if I had any thoughts on the election. I simply answered, "no". He asked me again, and I just shook my head.

I don't consider myself "politically correct" as he referred to me as. I have no problem stating my opinion whenever I feel like doing so. I just don't appreciate almost the entire class discussion about an election. The class only meets twice a week, and it's an advertising class. If this was my Business Communications class I can completely understand a class discussion on the topic, as a discussion can help build strong communication skills that millennials already lack due to excess technology devices.

To wrap it up entirely, this class started at the end of August. It's now almost October and we only have about one page of notes that's been recorded. Every class there's some sort of discussion about something that just takes over almost the entire class time.

This isn't happening in just one class either, this is happening in about 3 of them and I'm tired of hearing the same ideas and opinions being repeated over and over again. Yes, this is a huge election. Yes it's Trump against Clinton. Yes, we could potentially have a first woman president. No, I am not losing my education over it all.

There is a time and a place for certain matters to be discussed. If a professor wishes to speak about a topic, set aside time for it. Don't revolve the entire class around the election. Believe it or not, some students are serious when it comes to their education.

Particularly in this election, with the candidates we have running for office, my education is more valuable than it's ever been. I lose brain cells watching the comments BOTH Trump and Hillary, make towards their different views on areas that matter crucially to this country.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
