Midterms are quickly approaching which means it's time to say goodbye to going out every night until they are over.
For many going out and having a good time is the best stress reliever and with the constant pressure of needing to ace the upcoming exams the stress is going to be overwhelming. So how do you handle all that stress while still studying for those killer exams?
1. Time management
We've heard it time and time again that the way to succeed in college is with time management. It can be hard to know exactly how long it's going to take you to study particular subjects but the amount of days you have before each exam corresponding to the amount of time you need to fully understand that subject is key. With time management comes preventing yourself from procrastinating on the projects and papers that often come hand in hand with those annoying exams.
2. Know when to take breaks
Don't try and spend all day locked up in your room studying from sunrise to sunset. Chances are you aren't going to retain all of that information and let's be real, how much time are you actually spending studying and how much of it is spent on your phone and staring out the window. Setting reminders to take small breaks after an appropriate amount of time studying will give your brain a break and allow the information to sink in. However breaks is used lightly; Spending 30 minutes studying and 2 hours watching Netflix is probably not going to be an effective use of your break.
3. Maintain a balanced diet
One of the harder tasks in college is to eat well balanced meals everyday especially with the lack of desirable campus food being offered. It's especially important during a time of no sleep and varying emotional levels. Breakfast we know is the most important meal of the day and is going to fuel your body for the beginning half of your day so get up ten minutes earlier and stop by the dining hall before heading to class or your study session.
4. Don't forget to sleep
While staying up all night to study right before the exam might seem like a smart idea you're not going to remember anything you study being half sleep. On top of that there is always a chance you'll sleep through your alarm because of the sleep your body is now craving. Use your late night study sessions a couple days before the exam if you insist on staying up late.
Best of luck and may the odds ever be in your favor!
