Spring break just started for me and, for some of you, it is just ending. Still, others await it like Christmas morning when we were kids.
Some students go abroad on cruises or on treks across another country. Some students go to another state to visit family or friends or to see attractions that are exciting. However, I, and many other students I know opt for the "Spring Break Stay-cation."
I feel like this is the best plan for spring break because it offers you the chance to truly relax.
Here are the benefits of a stay-cation.
1. Save Money.
As college students who pay way too much for tuition and textbooks, going on vacation can be costly once we add up the tickets, the hotels, the food and all of the fun outings. A stay-cation saves on most of those. Sure, you will still go out a couple of times, and you still have to feed yourself, but lodging is free and you only owe your usual travel cost, not costly airfare.
2. No stress.
I know you're thinking that vacations aren't stressful either. But, when you look at rushing to get ready, getting to the airport on time, getting through security and meeting all the deadlines you have during a vacation, it can get stressful. Nobody has time for that.
With a stay-cation, you can relax all you want in your pajamas, in your bed with Netflix, binge-watching your latest obsession or catching up on all of your shows that you've missed due to studying for exams or writing boring papers.
3. No packing.
Packing sucks! You have to plan what you want to wear and you have to know exactly what the weather is going to be like (which is usually never accurate). You also have to plan a week's worth of outfits based on what you're going to do and where you are going to go. Who wants to do that? Not me.
4. You get to see your friends.
Whether you go to school away from your hometown or you are just too busy with school to actually hang out with your friends, going on vacation for a week doesn't help your case any. If you go on vacation during spring break, there is a good chance most of your friends won't be going with you. Having a stay-cation however opens the door to endless possibilities for hanging out with various friends you haven't seen since the first week of the semester, or winter break.
5. You get to sleep (and relax).
I know you'll probably say that vacations are relaxing. But, are they really? When you go on vacation you are usually always on the run, whether its going to the pool, out to meals, to attractions, or to bars and clubs. You don't get to sleep as much as you should to properly recover from the monotonous and continual nights of getting five hours of sleep for the last two months.
During your stay-cation, however, you can sleep as much as you want (and as much as your work schedule allows). This way you can get your body fully recovered and able to tackle the next two months until you finish the semester for the summer.
and lastly...
6. You get to see your cat (or other furry friends).
Just as much as we miss our human friends while we are at school, we also miss our furry friends, sometimes more than the human ones. I know I do. So, I plan to spend my stay-cation cuddling my cat while I binge-watch Netflix. You can to; it just makes sense.
However, if you go away during spring break, most of the time you don't get to take your pet with you. So, when you go back to school, you will still have a four-legged friend shaped hole in your heart because you miss them so much.
If you are on spring break now, think about taking a "stay-cation" next year, instead. If you have spring break coming up, consider staying home instead of going away. I know I made the right choice by taking a stay-cation.
