Summer time is the right time for road trips! Though exploring is great once we’ve reached our destinations, long car rides can drive us crazy. As my best friend and I make our three week journey across seven states, we’re discovering new ways to keep the ride entertaining that may help our fellow travelers stay sane!
1. Play The License Plate Game
Make a list of license plates from different states you see while driving. Try to find all 50!
2. Play The Alphabet Game
Name objects that you see starting with each letter of the alphabet. For example, A, Acura, B, bridge, C, coffee shop. It’s harder than it sounds!
3. Color
Don’t worry about paying ten dollars for one of those overly - complicated “adult” coloring books. The lines are way too close for bumpy rides. Go to your local dollar store and pick up some simple books so it’s easy to stay inside the lines. Only do this one if you're the passenger not driver of course!
4. Clean Up Your Devices
Everyone says, “one of these days I’m going to delete these old messages and pictures on my phone” well now is the perfect time! Again, don't attempt this if you're the one driving!
5. Take The Scenic Route
Even if it’s slightly longer, there will likely be less traffic on this route. Traffic aside, looking out at a beautiful view is much more interesting than car bumpers, white lines and cattle shoots.
6. Make An Awesome Playlist!
Time flies when you’re jamming! Make an awesome playlist before you get on the road so you’re not stuck surfing through white noise and commercials.
7. Read
Let’s face it, no one has time to read for pleasure during the semester, might as well take this opportunity to catch up on some of your favorite literature.
8. Talk
With the technological takeover, it’s rare that we talk face to face or really spill our guts anymore. Take this time to open up with your travel buddy. You may feel relieved after sharing what’s on your mind or learn something about travel buddy that never knew before.
Though our destinations are usually the exciting part, getting there can be half the fun. Travel time doesn’t have to be boring, as long as we go into it with positive attitudes and plan a few activities and routes to keep us entertained!
