Snow and weather colder than Alaska in the South?
The Northeast basically being a frozen block of ice?
Panic everywhere?
You can thank the ‘bomb cyclone’ Grayson for that. Although it sounds terrifying, bomb cyclones - rapidly intensifying low-pressure systems - are not extremely rare. In fact, New England faced one last year. Grayson, however, has numerous places under blizzard warnings and winter weather advisory, with some even in a state of emergency: this winter hurricane could be as strong as Hurricane Sandy. With winds almost as fast as (if not faster than) cars on highways, quite a lot of snow, and temperatures that probably wouldn’t be able to stay home alone if they were human children, this storm is a big deal. I mean, it’s snowing in Florida.
Yeah. That’s how you know it’s pretty bad.
Here are some things to remember in order to hopefully successfully wait out the dangerous weather:
- Listen to the warnings issued - don’t put your life or anyone else’s life at risk
- Make sure you have enough food and water
- Charge your phone and other devices
- Have candles, flashlights, a first-aid kit, and extra batteries at hand
- Do not go outside unless you absolutely have to
- Keep warm - make sure your windows and doors are closed/sealed and wear layers
- Try not to panic
So, in summary, if you are going to be one of the storm’s targets (the entire East coast), stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, please don’t drive, be prepared for being snowed-in and for power-outages, and try not to freeze.
