I've Finally Started Binge-Watching Shows, And It Is GREAT

I fell down a rabbit hole, and now I can’t get out (nor do I want to).

Well, winter break has changed me. As crazy as it may sound, before this winter break I had never been truly binge-watched anything. Yes, I have Netflix account, but the occasional movie is all I've ever really used that for. However, staying up at school an extra few days for work gave me a lot of extra free time to do nothing, or at least try to figure out how to do nothing when I wasn't at the office.

So yes, I cleaned our apartment from top to bottom, and yes — I found out what the true joys of binge-watching television shows could actually be.

Yes, I fell down a rabbit hole, and I can't get out, but, it's not like I really want to, right?

Between New Girl and Hallmark movies, I spent a good few days this break curled up into a ball on the couch, glass on, and eyes glued to a television screen. Now, the old me would wonder just what in the world I thought I was doing, but the me that finally understands how awesome binge-watching TV can be — well, she just wonders why I didn't do this soon. I mean, I haven't done anything like that since I watched Stranger Things in its entirety last summer. I mean, that was a good time though, I can't lie.

It's crazy, I know but watching countless episodes of a TV show can actually be pretty good for the soul. I mean, life gets a little crazy, and watching lots of funny television, the kind that makes you laugh until your stomach hurt, can actually make you feel a little bit better and a little less stressed. So yeah, maybe there was a point when I definitely watched too much TV way too fast, but overall, a few episodes back to back never hurt anyone.

If we let it, our lives can get so overrun by the daily stressors that inevitably fill it. If we let it, our lives can get a lot less fun, and a lot more difficult, with nothing to really give us a good laugh, or put a little smile on our face after the work day is over. If we let it, we can allow the stress in our lives to keep us from having fun, and I mean fun in any capacity. The kind of fun that just involves flipping on a TV and using a remote to find a comedy show.

Taking a step back and doing something a little less stressful, like binge-watching a little TV, has shown me that it's not impossible to take a break and have some nice free time sometimes.

It's crazy, I know, but binge-watching TV can be great, and great for good reason. So I say, have a little fun in your free time, and watch a few (or a lot of) episodes of your favorite shows. Sometimes, if you want to put your best self out there, you just have to enjoy yourself a little when you can.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
