Very recently, I read a phrase that really stood out to me and I even dare to say that it, in some way or another, changed my life. I was going through a book, Savor, which is a detailed outlook on devoting oneself to living in abundance, no matter where on might be in life. First off, this book in itself is a game changer (I mean, it even includes recipes!), in that it is written by an ordinary woman. Shauna Niequist is a mother and a wife, and has friends just like everyone else, she has no superpowers, no Hollywood special effects, no voodoo magic. She is simply herself, and to me, that's the absolute best thing to be.
This book, written by a completely normal person, has the potential, however, to do things the very opposite of normal. It changes perspectives on everyday matters, and it definitely has had that effect on me.
Now, back to the phrase that daresay changed my life.
"start from where you are"
I know what you're thinking. "Morgan, that is not exactly a life-altering statement." Oh, but I'm here to tell you, it is.
I've always, since I was a very little girl, pushed myself to my absolute limits. However, when I got tired of pushing myself so hard, yet appearing to receive no significant results, I'd stop trying. This very well may have been my demise up until this quote.
This phrase, "start where you are", challenged me in a very special way. What I gather from this, is that each day we begin in a different place than the day before. Sometimes, we move farther along in our successes. However, at times, when our inner doubts get in our heads, we backtrack a bit. This phrase tells me that it's okay to back up a bit; to take a deep breath and try again. It's okay to think about the future and the "what-ifs", but it's not okay to worry about them.
Matthew 6:27 says, "And to which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his span of life?"
So there, do not worry about what tasks that may seem like too much, or about the journeys that may seems way too long. Instead, simply start where you are. You will make it. I promise.
