I have a love-hate relationship with Netflix. One part of me loves it because I can watch all of my favorite shows whenever and wherever I want. That’s always why I hate it. I always have a reason to procrastinate studying for my exam by explaining that Netflix starting playing the next episode so I had to watch it. But Netflix is also the best because I can watch new shows and binge-watch my way through college. Somehow I always end up watching the dumbest thing like “The Great British Baking Show,” and I can finish the season in a few days. Why would I wait a whole week just to wait for the next episode? Nobody has time for that. If I’m going to watch a show, I’m going to binge-watch.
Whether or not we notice it, binge watching has a specific pattern. We start the show, then slowly fall in love with it, won’t stop talking about it, and cry when it’s over. If this sounds familiar, it’s because those are the steps of what happens when you start a new show on Netflix.
1. Everyone is talking about the show.

2. You start the series.

3. You’re hooked.
Why didn’t you start watching it sooner? You get annoyed when Netflix asks if you’re still there as you lay in bed with popcorn, watching the show.
4. You can’t stop watching.
5. The show begins to take over your life.
6. You get emotionally attached to the characters.
You love all of the characters, even the ones you claim you hate (but secretly love). If one dies, you’ll be crying for the next day.
7. You finish the first season.
Onto the next one.
8. You try to avoid spoilers (but end up getting spoiled).
Someone will spoil something about the show, no matter how hard you try to avoid spoilers.
9. You finish the show or are waiting for the next season.
What am I supposed to do now? Binge watch another show?
