To say that "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" awoke the fanatical, obsessed geek person in me is a bit of an understatement. This past weekend, I dove into this film expecting a lot -- because it's "Star Wars." I emerged from the theater smiling wide and satisfied. Now, I don't want to spoil this movie for anyone, but here are some of the things that made this movie spectacular. Don't worry, I will not give away any life changing moments.
Rey.
Rey is the star of the movie who assumes the role of bad ass. She encourages me to pick up a light saber and try to defeat the dark side. She is a role model for young girls watching the movie and shows that women and girls can achieve awesome power by working hard and being themselves.
Han Solo and Chewy.
Yes, they are back but who didn't know that? Anyway, when they first appear on screen together, I swear I heard angels singing. For everyone who appreciates the cheesiness that "Star Wars" brings to the screen, this moment encompasses that feeling to a tee. Han makes a joke or says a line that makes you do a hehe chuckle and it feels great. And of course Chewy is the cutest thing I have ever seen, and is the comic relief when we really need it.
Kylo Ren.
He is the new face of the dark side, and quite a handsome face at that. Adam Driver, one of my favorite actors who also stars in one of the best shows on television, Girls, plays this sinister character who wears a black mask, but then luckily eventually reveals his beautiful yet tortured face. He embodies the dark side and while I strain to be a part of the light, he makes me want to turn and learn the ways of the force that is not so light.
The light sabers.
The light sabers in this movie, as silly as this seems, are so real. The sounds they make when flicking on and moving around are extremely life-like, and my number one wish on my Christmas list is a light saber for sure. It feels like how the first trilogy made the sabers seem harsh and dangerous and that is carried into this episode and it made a big impact.
BB-8
This little guy is a droid with attitude. He contains hilarity along with wit and tends to outsmart the evil guys. This loyal companion also has feelings and makes you want one as well, which is why he is number two on my Christmas list.
I tried to be as vague with the details in case one of you silly people have not seen this movie yet, but I am urging you with all of the force that is within me to go see this movie right now. You will not regret it. "Star Wars:The Force Awakens" is a great addition to the rest of the episodes and sets up an exciting new trilogy.
