There has been a lot of news regarding Kesha in the news recently. And if you didn't know, she is bringing up the sexism that exist in the music industry. Most people assume that there is some sexism, but not that much.
I just want to start out by saying I support Kesha and will stand behind her. In no circumstance should an artist be prevented from making their art. And now she has to deal with the hardships of fighting a legal battle to gain the rights to her music and be able to find a place to flourish again.
Kesha is a very special case. Never have I heard of something this drastic happening; however it does bring up the point that maybe not all things are reported. These women feel that they are tested everyday by male coworkers who are waiting for them to slip up. With the struggle of having a reputation to keep together, hiding things that have happened seems to be the easier option.
Most people also think the the music industry is becoming equal between jobs held by women and men. And even though more women are working these jobs, it is still extremely male dominant. Let's look at sound engineers. There are next to no women filling these jobs.
Some believe that women can easily make it in the industry. But it is not that simple. In order to create a path, you have to watch how you do things and be watched closely by men in your field.
This is also affecting female artists. They are asked to dress a certain way and "act dumb". The fact is, the industry needs to change. Without change, the music industry can't progress and more incidents like Kesha can become more of a reality.
