If you're a student at Mount Saint Mary College, you very well know the stress that comes with receiving your lottery number for next year's housing. Even worse, the day you have to wait on that unbearably long line filled with anxious students. There's no way you can go to room selections with only one plan to a specific room you want, odds are the person directly in front of you will pick that room and you'll be back at square one. Here are the many stages of MSMC's room selection time.
1. Discussing with friends.
You all know this is when you and your friends frantically try and figure out where you can all realistically live together. In which of course you all cross your fingers to get low lottery numbers, which will probably not happen. Most of the time we hype each other up to possibilities way out of our reach, but we have hope that It'll all work out and stay excited.
2. Lottery number day.
The most important day is finally here. Where everyone impatiently awaits that personal email from Amy giving you your lottery number. Many people are excited, anxious, nervous and even scared. It's a pretty big deal; a high enough number and you can guarantee you'll be living with no friends. Let the waiting begin.
3. *One new email.
Your phone dings and you look over to see you have an email from Amy. The suspension is really there, do you open it or do you let your friends open it? I mean who even cares, it's just a silly dorm room... right?
4. Lottery #253.
How is it that every year you manage to get a ridiculously high lottery number. I never hear of those students with low numbers anyways, maybe it's rigged. Maybe they want for me to live in a dorm the size of a closet. Any hopes and dreams you had of getting the room you wanted are now crushed.
5. Room selection day.
If you thought the anticipation for your lottery number was bad, try waiting on line with a bunch of anxiety filled students. You can't go to select a room with only one option in mind. You must have at least three different plans because people are only out for themselves. Also, can the line go any slower?
6. Next on line.
You're next on line to choose your room for next semester and have no idea what to expect. What if all your options for rooms have been taken? What if you randomly select a room and it happens to be the size of a shoebox? Or what if you are so lucky you get one of the largest rooms? Honestly, anything can happen at this point.
7. Your turn.
It's your turn to go into the room, and depending on what number you personally have you'll either end up alone with a small room or luck will be on your side. Good luck everyone during room selection!!
