Finally, after a long and exhausting semester, winter break has finally arrived. Now comes the seven stages that almost everyone goes through when they realize they are finally on the long-awaited winter break.
1. Exhaustion
I like to think that the feeling you get when you turn in your last final exam is like the feeling you get when you cross the finish line at a marathon run. You're tired, you feel dead, but you finally finished and you feel so accomplished.
2. Joy
You realize that your classes are finished and you have a burst of joy going through you. So naturally, you throw all of this semesters papers away in celebration. All of the papers that you know you won't ever need again finally meets its gruesome end. It will all make its way to some landfill and you honestly could not care less because all of that work caused you great pain and suffering the past few months.
3. Ecstatic
Winter break is over a month long, it is time to pack! This shirt, this sweater, and basically the rest of your closet. Weather can be very unpredictable, you have to prepare for every scenario. In the process, you can't help but feel ecstatic over the fact that you are finished with the fall semester.
4. Grief
The final goodbye before you leave for a month is very painful since naturally, all of your friends live a million miles away from you and you won't be able to see them until you come back for spring semester.
5. Boredom
Once you are all packed, it is finally time to take yourself home. Depending on where you live, the drive can take hours upon hours. It reaches hour five of your drive and you just sit in your car, wanting to be home.
6. Welcomed
Your parents just saw you a couple weeks ago for Thanksgiving break but they still missed you like crazy and they rolled out the welcome party for you. They never fail to spoil you the days following, too.
7. Optimistic
After a long semester, finals, and the six previous stages of going home for winter break, you finally get the chance to lay down in your own bed at home. You can't help but smile at the fact that you are finally finished with such a long semester. Don't forget you also start to feel like spring semester will be s much better.
