Let's be honest. Some friendships aren't meant to last. No matter how close to someone you might be, you could still find yourself drifting apart or getting more and more irritated with each other. And losing a friend sucks, sometimes even more than losing a partner. Suddenly finding yourself separated from someone who played an important role in your life, being there when no one else could, can be devastating.

What helps us best in times of devastation? Music. We always seem to find ourselves turning to music when things get rough. It's because music understands us, and we understand it. It reflects what we're feeling back at us. Here are six songs to listen to that reflect the stages of breaking up with a friend.

1. "Everybody's Changing" by Keane

So little time
Try to understand that I'm
Trying to make a move just to stay in the game
I try to stay awake and remember my name
But everybody's changing
And I don't feel the same

When you know the end is coming, but you're desperately trying to hold on, until...

2. "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift featuring Kendrick Lamar

Cause baby, now we've got bad blood
You know it used to be mad love
So take a look what you've done
Cause baby, now we've got bad blood, hey!
Now we've got problems
And I don't think we can solve 'em
You made a really deep cut
And baby, now we've got bad blood, hey!

Everyone is angry. People on both sides feel betrayed. It's war, and you're both trying to recruit your mutual friends to your side.

3. "Pompeii" by Bastille

But if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
You've been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?

The battle is over. Your emotions are spent. You just want to pretend nothing happened, but you're still left feeling lost.

4. "Fallout" by Marianas Trench

I'm awake, and trying
While you're sleeping like a babe
Beside him
I'm on the ledge while you're so
God damn polite and composed
And I know you see me,
And you're making it look so easy

Your old friend has seemingly moved on with their life, and you feel betrayed. It hurts to think that they aren't as crushed by the destruction of your friendship as you are.

5. "Gives You Hell" by The All-American Rejects

When you see my face
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you walk my way
Hope it gives you hell
Hope it gives you hell
When you find a man that's worth a damn and treats you well
Then he's a fool, you're just as well
Hope it gives you hell

Spite, bitterness, and the desire for petty revenge are normal. No matter if you just wish ill on them for fun or to get even, you're bound to be feeling at least a little malice. But it's not healthy to hold on to that. You need to move on...

6. "When We Were Young" by Adele

You still look like a movie
You still sound like a song
My God, this reminds me
Of when we were young

Though you aren't friends anymore, you had a lot of good times in the past. There's a lot of opportunity to sit around reminiscing and feeling nostalgic. And this is good. Remember the good times, even if you are in despair about the bad. You might never have that bond again, but the way they impacted your life in the past was extremely important. Don't let it go.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
