Pre-Departure:
“You’re not going. I really hope that you don’t think you can just leave the country/me for three whole months.”
Before your best friend goes abroad, you will get on your hands and knees at least once and beg them not to leave you. You will ask them a bunch of questions that start with the words “what am I going to do when…”
You will realize that you have not gone this long without seeing them and of course, you unavoidably start crying.
You try to convince their parents to not let them go.
You will literally say anything to get them to stay.
You accept that this is going to happen and you have to try and be happy for them, while you’re still extremely angry.
You will make them PROMISE to what’s app/text (if they have a SIM card)/viber/ Facebook chat/video chat/Skype everyday. Hell, if they have a Twitter you will make them direct message you if you have to.
The night before they leave you will refuse to let go of your hug and let them get into their car.
Once you get home, you will text them to make sure that they have all the necessary apps downloaded.
During Their Time Abroad
You immediately add the world clock of what country they're in to your iPhone so that you know what time they'll be waking up/going to bed/going out/going to class. You absolutely hate how there are only so many hours in the day where you guys can talk to each other without one being asleep but you accept the challenge.
You will drunk text them almost every night telling them about your night, only to get angry as to why they aren't answering you. Then you'll realize that they're probably sleeping and you have to wait for them to wake up in two hours, when you're probably sleeping.
When it’s a really bad day, all you want is your best friend to be there and hug you, but they’re not, which will make you cry again, and that’s OK. At the end of the day, you have accepted that this is a great experience and you’re happy that your best friend is able to take advantage of this opportunity.
But of course, you have a countdown on your phone/computer for when they return home.
