We talked all winter about how much we wanted summer. And now that it's here, we've got to face heat that feels like a thousand degrees on a cloudy day. And if you live in the South, you know that you go through these stages of dealing with the heat, sometimes multiple times, every summer.
1. I'm so ready! Let it begin!
I’ve been waiting for months for the heat to come back, this is the best thing ever. SUMMER FOREVER! Barbeques and beach days, here I come!
2. Excuse me, it's HOW HOT?
The high is 102 degrees this week?! Is it possible to melt? Has that ever happened to anyone before? Because I think it's happening to me.
3. It has never been this hot before.
Okay, wow, was it this hot last summer? I don’t remember it being this hot last summer. This has to be some sort of record or something.
4. I still want to be tan, though.
You know what? I’m tanning anyway. You earn your tan lines. I can totally do this.
5. Nope, nope, nope.
Just kidding! Forget this, I’m hiding. I can just stand in that patch of shade over there for the rest of my life.
6. But... Carpe Diem!
But there are so many summery things I’ve been looking forward to all year! I don't want to waste my summer! It's already July and there's still so much left that I want to do! Seize the day, my friend, even if it's a few hundred degrees outside.
7. I'm pretty sure I could cook out here.
If it’s going to be this hot I might as well cook something. I think the pavement is hot enough by now. If you’ve never tried to cook something in the sun, you’ve never truly lived through a southern summer.
8. At least I don't need to go to the gym.
Maybe I don’t need to work out. It’s so hot I’m just going to sweat off all this extra weight.
9. Make it stop.
Maybe if I stop moving completely, I’ll stop sweating.
10. I need some sweet tea.
Extra ice, please. How on earth do people drink warm tea?
11. I only wear sundresses now.
Bless her heart, she’s wearing long pants. That’s something I haven’t done since April. Sundresses are my BFF.
12. I will just avoid the car.
No, I do not want to get in my car. Because I know exactly how hot it’s going to be in there, and I’ll never be ready to deal with that. And when I turn on the air, it's going to be hot.
13. Time to cave and turn on the AC.
Forget saving money on AC this year, I can’t deal with this anymore. I give up.
And even though it's hot and humid and sometimes it feels like there's no escape, we love the summer and are always sad to see it go.
